Wage: Depends on Experience — Hourly

Status: Full-Time (Monday- Friday) 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Supervisor: Tribal Administrator

Position Summary:

This is a dual position. Under the supervision of the Tribal Administrator, employees will assist in the maintenance of the Mesa Grande Forest lands to minimize wildfire risk and the Golden Eagle Farm property landscaping. The position requires the ability to perform skilled labor to safely get trees on the ground by felling, as skillfully as possible as directed by management, adhering to safety policy and guidelines.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Provides the skilled physical labor needed doe safely accomplishing tasks, duties, and responsibilities in providing tree cutting service to Mesa Grande Reservation for firewood as needed.

·         Cuts trees using a chainsaw with proper techniques and to the appropriate standards.

·         Uses ropes and other rigging equipment to direct trees safely to the ground and avoid hazards.

·         Assists co-workers with safely setting up equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

·         Ensures all tools assigned are returned to designated area daily.

·         Weed whacking to keep weeds and overgrowth to a minimum.

·         Water pastures when needed to keep fields in a good condition at the Golden Eagle Farm.

·         Operates vehicles and other motor-driven machinery to complete tasks.

·         Check and repair fencing at the Golden Eagle Farm.

·         Trim trees, shrubs, and bushes on the Golden Eagle Farm property.

·         Plant trees, prune, apply fertilizer and herbicides, and control rodents.

·         Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.

·         Follows all safety rules and company policies and wears PPE appropriate for the work being conducted.

·         Calls a “stop work” should work or environmental conditions become to dangerous for work.

·         Alerts Leadman of safety hazards for instructions.

·         Seeks guidance and direction where needed in the safe performance of responsibilities and duties.

·         Reports free time to Leadman or Supervisor and asks for additional assignments.

·         Maintains a groomed professional appearance appropriate for the position, and in compliance with Mesa Grande’s dress code.

·         On occasion may be required to assist team members in other departments.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:

·         Knowledge of small equipment such as tractors with farming attachments.

·         Knowledge of chainsaws, mowing, trimming, and pruning.

·         Splitters, Stump Grinders, woodchippers, weed whackers.

·         Must be dependable.

·         Ability to lift, stand, and work in various weather conditions.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Must be at least 18 years or older.

·         High School graduate or equivalent education (GED) or related fields preferred.

·         Have experience with landscaping tools, brush, trees, and general agriculture.

·         Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment. Must pass pre-employment (including marijuana) and random drug testing during employment.

·         Must have a valid California class C driver’s license.

·         A background check will be required.

·         Indian preference will apply. The Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Mesa Grande Tribal Members.
