Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Director is responsible for all activities of the Medical Department, including clinical, administrative, and personnel functions. As a Primary Care physician, the Medical Director will also provide medical care services directly to patients of the Round Valley Indian Health Center, Inc. This position supports the functions of the clinic and clinical operations in accordance with the policies and procedures of RVIHC and regulations of the California Medical Board.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND SKILLS:
Responsible for establishing and maintaining medical policies and standards for the clinical setting.
Shall review and update all policies, procedures, and protocols used in the clinic at least annually with Medical Director’s signature noting approval.
Supervisory role for the Quality Assurance system for clinic wide performance improvement.
Establishes the health care objective of RVIHC, emphasizing primary care, health promoting and disease prevention. Implements these objectives in the routine care of patients in the clinic. Maintains
awareness of specific goals, (e.g. pediatric immunizations, adult immunizations, annual PPD testing, cancer screening, etc.) and imparts this awareness to the clinic and Health Center staff by means of staff meetings, in-service training, patient education communications, etc. Will integrate Scope of Work in to these objectives.
Responsible for direct and/or indirect supervision of all Medical Department staff, including annual evaluations, peer review for the Medical Providers, and review and update of job descriptions.
Leads or delegates leadership of Medical Staff meetings, Quality Assurance meetings, Dispensary Committee meetings, and Infection Control Meetings. Responsible for or delegates obtaining and maintaining minutes of these meetings.
Responsible for overseeing compliance with Medicare/ HCFA documentation and coding policies.
Maintains current communication with Health care community including Mendocino County physicians, local hospitals, consultants and specialists and specialty societies in order to foster optimal continuity of
care for RVIHC patients and to establish/ maintain contracts and preferred provider status.
Remain competent in medical knowledge and practices. Will update D.M.E. as required by California State Medical License.
Keep current in Indian Health Service Standards of care through frequent contact with I. H. S. area Chief Medical Officer and other tribal Medical Directors.
Maintains accreditation for California State Licensure and Dispensary Licensure, Laboratory CLIA Waiver and develops plan for attaining Ambulatory Care Accreditation.
Minimum Requirements
1. Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy Degree
2. Current California Medical License, or ability to work towards obtaining California License
3. Current NPI number for Medicare billing
4. Current Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate to Prescribe
5. Board Eligible/Board Ce1tified in a Primary Care Specialty, (Family Practice, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) desirable.
6. Two years’ experience in outpatient medicine post residency is desirable.
7. Current Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation certification.
8. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is desirable, with Neonatal Resuscitation, Advanced Life Supp01t in Obstetrics, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support recommended.
9. In good Physical and emotional health to practice in a busy clinical environment. I0. Current California Driver’s License with proof of insurance.
11. Pre-employment urine drug screen required.
12. Management experience in the medical health field.
13. Ability to work as part of a team with a variety of Health care professionals, including Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, in a multicultural setting.
14. Must comply with HIPPA laws and regulations.
15. Must adhere to the RVIHC Personnel Policies and Procedures.
16. Must be available on-site full time 30-40 hours a week.

Pay: $260,000.00 – $300,000.00 per year

About Round Valley Indian Health Center
The Round Valley Indian Health Center is a non-profit corporation established in 1968, designed to offer health care to the people of our community. The Health Center is located in Covelo, a remote valley community in Northern Mendocino County, 25 miles east of Highway 101 and an additional 15 miles from the nearest hospital and emergency services in Willits, California. The Round Valley Indian Health Center provides primary health care to approximately 3,000 people living in Covelo and the adjacent Round Valley Indian Reservation. The Reservation was established in 1856 and is the ancestral homeland of the Yuki Nation and home to six other Indian Tribes. The Health Center staff is dedicated not only to treatment, prevention, and patient education, but also recognizes traditional Indian Medicine and holistic healing.
