Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of Assets & Equipment (OAE) in the Division of Rail (DOR), the Senior Transportation Planner – Special Projects works as a technical transportation planning expert on rail rolling stock transportation projects. The Senior Transportation Planner coordinates with the Office Chief in carrying out special projects, including responding to legislative affairs and public records requests; leading consultant task orders; and supporting the development of work groups. The Senior Transportation Planner will provide transportation planning support to the Rolling Stock Procurement, Equipment and Facilities Inspections, and Fleet Management Branches where needed. The Senior Transportation Planner coordinates with other Offices in the DOR, such as Rail Planning and Implementation (RPI) and Passenger Rail Operations and Maintenance (PROM), to ensure that the Office’s activities are tied to state rail network goals in the California State Rail Plan and to ensure the smooth operation of the California intercity passenger rail network.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Planner Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g. transfer, permissive reinstatement or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
