Part-time position, Entry-level, hours may vary from 20 to 30 hours per week depending on funding, may include evenings or weekends.
May start as a trainee and work towards certifications

Pay: $20 per hour
The Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians has an opening for a part-time Environmental Trainee to work in the Tribes Environmental Programs, the job duties are described below. The Environmental Trainee will start at an entry level position and must be willing to learn all aspects of the Environmental Programs, attend meetings and training to promote the capacity building of the Tribes Environmental Department.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Solid waste pick-up. Help with the trash from Tribal homes and offices.
- Recycling pick up. Collect recycle materials for Tribal homes and office recycled materials sorting.
- Weed abatement around Tribal buildings and homes for fire protection.
- Willingness to participate in training for environmental programs.
- Learning to collect water samples and take available water trainings.
- Learn to sound water wells and the use of the necessary equipment.
- Be willing to log data collected for environmental programs.
- Stream bank and wetlands restoration work.
- Participate and help plan education and outreach events for the Mesa Grande Band of Indians
- Be able to and willing to do physical labor.
- Be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Be willing to learn water systems and assist Water Operator.
- and various other duties as assigned by the Tribal Chairman or Environmental Director.
Job Requirements may include standing for extended periods of time, lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and working in all weather conditions, and working all hours of the day. Will included use and operation of hand and power tools and equipment, including ladders.
Requirements:
- Requires use of safety equipment.
- Requires a valid CA driver’s license.
- Requires passing a drug test.
- Requires submitting to random drug testing.
- Requires adherence to a drug and alcohol free, Zero tolerance, workplace policy.
