What We Can Achieve Together:
Based at the Clymer Meadow Preserve in northeast Texas, the Grassland Steward will assist with implementation of conservation programs, ecological restoration, and preserve management plans on TNC lands and programmatic/regional projects.  This position will be responsible for assisting with management on six north Texas TNC preserves, as well as stewardship efforts throughout the Trinity, Red, Sulphur, and Sabine River watersheds.   The Grassland Steward will be an integral part of TNC-led efforts in protecting and improving grassland management on public and private property to increase carbon capture and storage, avoid conversion of natural ecosystems, while also supporting sustainable working lands of agriculture and renewable energy.

Overnight travel outside northeast Texas is approximately 20%.  May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.  These may include adverse weather conditions; considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain; long hours in isolated settings; exposure to hazards such as biting/stinging insects, venomous snakes, other wildlife.

Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·       Ecological restoration project implementation including seed harvest, processing, storage, and planting;

·       Exotic species control using mechanical and chemical techniques;

·       Operation of small and heavy machinery for brush/tree reduction, mowing, seed harvest, seedbed preparation, prescribed fire preparation;

·       Stewardship on partner and private lands as necessary;

·       Maintain preserve boundaries and fences, buildings, other infrastructure;

·       Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, trailers;

·       Participation as TNC-Texas prescribed fire team member;

·       Planning and/or leading volunteer workdays;

·       Providing access to preserve visitors including researchers

·       Assist with other conservation projects within Texas as necessary.

What You’ll Bring:
·       BA/BS degree in a science-related field and 1-year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or a similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Experience with natural systems.

·       Experience in ecological land management principles.

·       Experience operating and or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.

·       Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. NWCG FFT2 or higher, First Aid, CPR, herbicide application, ATV safety, and driver’s license).

Salary Information:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $50,000 –  $60,000 for annual base salary or $27.50 – $33.00 hourly rate. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
