Who We Are:

The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s toughest challenges so that we can create a world in which people and nature thrive. We’re rooted in our Mission and guided by our Values, which includes a Commitment to Diversity and Respect for People, Communities, and Cultures. Whether it’s career development, flexible schedules, or a rewarding mission, there’s lots of reasons to love life #insideTNC. Want a better insight to TNC? Our goal is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that all our colleagues around the globe feel a sense of belonging, and that their unique contributions to our mission are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our Mission by hiring and engaging a diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we work. In addition to the requirements in our postings, we recognize that people come with talent and experiences outside of a job. Diversity of experience and skills combined with passion is a key to innovation and a culture of inclusion! Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote myriad TNC staff members, “you’ll join for our mission, and you’ll stay for our people.”

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Associate Director of Philanthropy III (ADoP III) develops, implements, and manages effective multi-year strategies and plans for the cultivation and solicitation of planned and major gift prospects, including corporations, foundation and institutions, with an emphasis on individual donors.

The Associate Director of Philanthropy III is responsible for achieving aspirational annual fundraising goals, making direct asks to fund high-impact work at all levels of the organization, with an emphasis on raising flexible funds for TNC’s priorities at a global, divisional and state level. They support chapter leadership, especially the state director, in undertaking strategic donor engagement. They partner with trustees on personal giving, inspiring peers, and activating personal networks on behalf of the organization. They understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies with a portfolio of new and current donors and prospects for major, planned and blended gifts, engaging both longtime donors and previously unaffiliated donors. This includes understanding common avenues for charitable giving, particularly tax-advantaged strategies, private foundations, operating foundations and Donor Advised Funds and are proficient at discussing charitable options with donors. Successful donor engagement requires discussing assets proficiently and listening for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash and planned gifts, incorporating these opportunities in donor proposals to donors as appropriate. They adeptly represent the local, divisional and global priorities of the Conservancy, exemplify the values of the organization, and continually build on their skills, knowledge and cultural competence. Collaboration with finance and conservation staff is foundational to this role along with understanding of organizational budgets and application of this knowledge to build donor communication strategies and proposal budgets. Additional foundational collaborations include building internal relationships and partnerships across chapters and programs and seeking out opportunities to mentor and be mentored by colleagues. They use the Conservancy’s donor database conscientiously to plan solicitation strategies and to document and manage relationships.
